This small commercial town is about 40 miles southeast of Pergamum. It had many trade guilds to which all its workers belong. During their many festive occasions, Christians are tempted to compromise about food offered to idols and tempted to yield to the allurements of sexual encounters.
Interestingly, the church in Thyratira shows by its deeds that it has a heart of love, faith and service. However, apparently it tolerates the false teaching of Jezebel about eating food sacfificed to idols and committing acts of immorality. The unrepentant followers will die of pestilence. Those who reject the teachings must hold fast until Jesus returns, and then as "victorious ones", they will be given authority over their oppressors. Jesus will also give them the "morning star".
